Buildings are not square. Walls bow, floors fall, and openings are rarely true. Good carpentry is largely the craft of making things that look perfectly straight inside a building that is not, which is why site measurement matters more than catalogue dimensions.

Site measurement before fabrication

We survey the actual opening or recess before anything is made, recording it at several points rather than one. A recess that measures 2,400mm at the top and 2,388mm at the bottom needs a unit made to fit that reality, with the discrepancy absorbed in a scribe rather than left as a visible taper.

First fix and second fix

First fix carpentry — studwork, noggins, floor structure, door linings — is structural and hidden, and its accuracy determines how well every finish after it sits. Second fix — doors, architraves, skirtings, ironmongery — is what people see and touch, and it is where fitting tolerances become visible.

Bespoke joinery

Fitted furniture, wardrobes, shelving and display units are made to suit the specific space rather than adapted from standard carcasses. That means using the full height and depth available, working around service runs and awkward returns, and finishing to match the room's other timber elements.
